Every culture has a story. Stories come in many different shapes and forms such as songs, folktales, games, legends, ballads, dances, visual art, and more. As we stand on the foundations of our ancestors, these traditions are passed on from generation to generation. Cultural narratives are more than just songs or games; they give key insight into the struggles, trials, triumphs, lifestyles, and beliefs of those who created them. Specifically, this website investigates how African American cultural narratives within United States history, explain paradigms and cultural perspectives of the African American people. The investigation focuses solely on slavery in the United States before the year 1865 (The United States National Archives and Record Administration, n.d.). Specifically, it explores the cultural narratives created through the art forms of folktales, dances, and songs as a means of expression and insight.
